I am Stephen Roh, both an avid watch collector and a watchmaker. I have been collecting watches, vintage and modern, for several years, with an appreciation for their heritage, design and geometry. Over time that interest developed into a desire to create something of my own. I have recently started working on my first watch project, model name R. Aevum N° 01.

Where the design stands

Below are photographs of my first 3D resin printed mock-up. At this stage I am mainly exploring the overall proportions and case geometry, and especially the lug design, which I consider to be one of the most distinctive and crucial elements of a well made timepiece.

The resin print has been useful for evaluating the design in physical format, and for the actual nuances of the case itself. There are things a screen cannot tell you. The prototype proper is being CNC machined as of now, and I am eager to present more detail on the progression of R. Aevum N° 01 as it comes.

Key dimensions

For those interested in the technical side, these are the dimensions I have landed on.

  • Case diameter — 36.50 mm
  • Lug to lug — 44.30 mm
  • Case thickness — 6.45 mm, or 7.15 mm including the protruding lugs
  • Case material — stainless steel 316
  • Movement — a refinished and modified Peseux 7001

On the movement: I am planning to create my own modified calibre based on this beautiful base movement. That work is ahead of me, not behind me.

Thanks

I would like to offer a warm salute to Mr. Mic Ji, my dear friend and an avid Patek Philippe collector, for providing critical opinion and support in shaping my prototype design journey.

This is my first attempt at bringing a watch design from years of an idea into something tangible, and I thought it would be worthwhile to share the process here and document its development as it progresses.

I would be very interested to hear thoughts, especially on the case proportions and the overall design. Constructive criticism and suggestions are very welcome.
