Design philosophy

The intention behind N° 01 was never novelty. It was to understand, by building, why certain watches sit correctly on the wrist and read correctly at a glance — and to find out which of those qualities come from proportion, which from geometry, and which only from finishing.

The case is being developed around a mid-century dress-watch envelope rather than a contemporary one: modest diameter, thin bezel, and a lug form that carries the strap close to the wrist. The lug profile is the one element intended to be recognisable as mine.

Case development

Development has moved from sketches to CAD, and from CAD to a resin print produced to check proportion in the hand rather than to test function. The resin print answered questions the renderings could not — chiefly that the original lug length was too generous for the diameter.

A CNC-machined prototype in steel is the next stage. Material and finishing decisions follow it, not the other way round.

Movement development

The current direction is a vintage ETA / Peseux 7001 — a hand-wound calibre whose architecture is well documented and well suited to a thin dress case.

I am exploring a custom three-quarter plate in the Glashütte visual tradition, in brass, with a champagne IP gold finish under consideration. This is a design exploration at present and has not been engineered, validated, or produced. Nothing here should be read as a finalised specification.

Manufacturing and finishing

Component production, machining, surface finishing, plating, fitting, assembly and timing adjustment are all ahead rather than behind. This section will be filled in as each step is genuinely reached, and documented as it happens rather than afterwards.
