Why build one at all
Collecting teaches you what you like. It does not teach you why you like it. After enough years of handling watches I could tell within seconds whether one felt right, and could not explain a single reason for it that survived scrutiny.
That gap is the reason for this project.
What N° 01 has to answer
I set three constraints before drawing anything:
- It must be wearable daily, not a display object.
- Every decision must be one I can explain, and defend, in writing.
- Nothing gets called finished until it is finished.
The third has turned out to be the hardest.
A drawing is a question. A prototype is the answer, and usually not the one you wanted.
What follows in this journal is the record of asking those questions in order.
